It's a chilly day in northeastern Michigan — 22 degrees at the moment, and headed lower, plus a stiff wind. When I visited the house around Noon there was a heavy breeze off Lake Huron, blowing right against my front door. I think the airlock effect at the main entrance — aka the foyer — was a good move.

The pressure tank has been installed in the basement. That completes the well installation. Once we power up, we could have running water. Of course, at the moment it has no place to run to!

The mechanical inspector arrived just as I was about to leave. We walked through the house as he inspected the heating and exhaust rough-in. He wants blocking added two feet on either side of the exhaust fan ducts to prevent moist air from coming back into the house where it could create a moisture problem inside the roof and walls. He also reminded us that when the stovepipe for the wood burner is boxed in, we have to maintain a minimum 2-inch clearance for fire safety. Then he added his sticker to those left earlier by the electrical and plumbing inspectors.

Now the building inspector can make his final rough inspection. With his approval, we can proceed to insulate and drywall the house. •••
