Yesterday afternoon I drove out to the Point at New Lighthouse Park to see what state Lake Huron was in. As the photos below will show, we had heavy surf on the shoreline. However, Huron experienced much higher waves out in deep water. NOAA told recreational boaters to stay in port. Commercial vessels were told to rig for heavy weather, or seek shelter in port if possible.

Shallow water extends quite a distance out from shore — perhaps a quarter-to-half-mile. Hence the need for a lighthouse at this location. Waves start breaking up far out. The photos show what is left when they reach shore. This is child's play compared to what the storm produced at the south end of Lake Michigan. •••
