This morning I made a donation to the Red Cross to aid their response to Hurricane Sandy. You can do likewise by going to http://www.redcross.org and making a donation in any amount, $10 or above. We can also help by giving blood.
Staten Island's south shore looks like a war zone. I can understand why residents are frustrated with the slow response by the "cavalry." But in truth, the federal, state, and local folks will be months putting this situation to rights.
Joanie's daughter lives on Staten Island, but on the north side (Joanie is a parishioner at St. John's, Grand Haven). She reports that Jessi made it through the storm in relatively good shape, losing power and heat, but without injury or damage to her house. Still, Jessi lives in one of the hardest hit areas, and that memory will linger. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her neighbors. •••
