Flashing Lights

This morning Patrick Pokorski told me that the police stopped his daughter last night as she was taking down one of his campaign banners.  Those banners cost $50-100 each, depending on size, and the theft of several has been a major headache, as well as a financial loss.  So, his daughter has been taking down banners at nightfall and putting them back up in the morning.

The officer checked her ID, decided that she was telling the truth, and let her go.  But a subsequent call to the Presque Isle Sheriff's Department revealed that both the Sheriff and the Michigan State Police are patrolling Presque Isle Township, watching for yard sign pilferers.  Their presence has become so evident that Patrick's opponent in the race for Township Supervisor called the Sheriff's office in Rogers City "to be sure they knew he wasn't the one doing the crimes."  Police recognize that an unsolicited denial of guilt is more often than not a confession, if not of being a perp, then at least of awareness! •••
