Wind, Wind, Go Away

Construction has been on hold since Oct. 15 when the roofers left.  Kyle's Bobcat has blocked the driveway in an effort to keep evildoers at bay.  However, I'm told that some of my neighbors have said, "Surely that 'Keep Out' sign can't mean us,' and have toured the site.

Yesterday Kyle and Dave were back and busy buttoning up the building in preparation for the storm we expect today.  This morning the Weather Channel's radar shows a mass of nasty weather moving through Wisconsin and clearly headed out way.  As the day wears on we should get a lot of rain along with strong winds.  Gusts above 60 mph have been reported in Wisconsin.  While tornadoes are unusual this far north, Presque Isle sometimes gets very strong straight-line winds.  I hope we don't lose power.

So, yesterday the guys used Visqueen plastic sheeting to seal up window openings on the west and south sides of the house.  That should keep most of the water out.  We still have a hole in the roof, the opening for the skylight, but storm water entering there will just end up in the basement.

Even with bad weather, the guys can work on interior walls.  Then, on Wednesday, another shipment from Rycenga should arrive.  This will include windows for the east and north sides of the house, as well as the materials needed to complete the garage.

Perhaps I've mentioned this already.  My neighbor Floyd confirms that some men in a car with Michigan plates were stopped by police in Kansas or some other state west of us.  Evidence found in the car led the cops to check with authorities here in Michigan, and this apparently led to recovery of some of the tools stolen from the trailer belonging to Jim Nye, our mason.  I'll see if I can chase down some of the details. •••
