A Rainfly Appears

By late yesterday work was progressing rapidly on the hip roof on the front (street side) of the house.  Kyle, Jose and Dave were measuring, cutting, and nailing in the rafters which will support this short section of roof.  In just an hour the "bones" of the hip roof appeared as if out of nowhere.

 The stairwell has two windows, one about level with the ground floor, and the other on the landing halfway up the stairs.  In addition, the stairwell will have a skylight in the hip roof.  In the photo below Kyle and Jose (out of view on the right) are snapping a chalk line to position the skylight's opening.

The hip roof will also define the east wall of the office.  In this photo Jose is installing the members which will carry the ceiling to its juncture with the sloping roof.

Joanie has expressed her appreciation for the photos.  I enjoy taking them, but thus far I've used only the automatic settings for exposure and focusing.  Now I have to learn how this camera works on full manual.  It's hard to get proper exposure late in the day, because I often have to shoot into the bright western sky.

The shingles — a kind of reddish-brown/dark brown — are ready.

The shingles are ready for the roofers.  I've selected Burnt Sienna.  The siding will be a lighter shade of brown, so the two ought to coordinate fairly well. •••
