Ready for Roofers

Yesterday morning the crew was getting ready for the roofers, moving packs of shingles onto the roofs.  This is the definition of "heavy lifting."  Each pack weighs about 90 pounds.  For the garage, Jose would move packs from the trailer to the Bobcat.  Then, after Kyle in the Bobcat had lifted them up to the level of the roof, Jose would carry them to the ridge.  Jose and Dave did the same with shingles for the house.

Midway through the shingle moving, Jose, Dave and Kyle took a coffee break, and I took advantage of their being in one place at one time to pose a group shot.

With the rake installed, the shape of the roof has become clear, and I find it very pleasing.  There is a slight "barn" flavor to the house when seen from the southeast.

Repeat 10 times quickly: "This is a gambrel roof."

By late afternoon we had overcast skies and the threat of rain.  However, the roofers, who arrived around noon, got right to work, first on the garage, and then on the house.

By nightfall the roofers were finishing up the lakeside 2nd floor roof.  That will leave them just the front (street) side of the upper roof to complete today.  I expect they will be finished and on their way home before Noon.

By the way, Nancy asked how our beleaguered township supervisor is doing.  At Monday night's Township Board meeting, Pat Pokorski told Board members and the audience that the months-long State Police investigation had yielded no evidence of wrongdoing.  In response, the county prosecutor has refused to authorize a warrant.  In short, all the accusations which formed the basis of the recall effort have been shown to be groundless.  However, only a few days remain until the election.  It's likely that many people will not hear this news — that Pat has been cleared — until after they vote.  Pat's friends are trying to get the word out.

This may not be the end of this episode.  There is still the matter of the financial records which have gone missing from the Township Office.  The State Police are investigating that, too.  And people in the area are starting to ask, "What's going on in Presque Isle Township?" •••
