Average Winter?

Last week's Advance, the local weekly, reported that snowfall in Presque Isle County stands has reached 100 inches, as measured at the County Road Commission office in Rogers City.  Our annual average snowfall is 75-100 inches, according to the Weather Service.

However, we reached our annual average at the end of January.  That still leaves February, March, and a bit of April to deal with.  It's a challenging winter, to be sure.  At the same time, the jet stream has carried most storms to our south.  For example, yesterday morning Detroit — along with much of the Midwest — was snarled by snow falling at a rate of 1 inch per minute.  Traffic on Woodward Avenue was at a crawl, according to a friend.  But up here?  Not a flake!  So I can't complain. •••
