Thus far this has been a challenging winter! Michigan's downstate area — Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and most of the Lake Michigan shore — has had a much more difficult time than Presque Isle. But we've had our share of snowfall. I think my driveway has been plowed seven times, almost as often as last winter. And it's just January!
For example, today and tomorrow the southern Lower Peninsula, from Saginaw Bay south, is supposed to get about a half-foot of snow. Presque Isle is expecting 1-3 inches. Lake effect could add to our total, but this storm looks more like a nuisance than a threat. Even the windchill forecast isn't too intimidating.
Michigan's Upper Peninsula gets a lot of snow, even when the Lower Peninsula has a mild winter. Years ago I remember reading a newspaper from (as I recall) Marquette. On the front page was a large color photo of kids sledding down the tall hill of snow cleared from the city's streets. The paper's publication date was July 4th!
