Here's an interesting idea re: gun safety. The Politico web site reported this morning that Democratic mayors recently had an epiphany: "that cities spend millions of dollars a year as customers of these [gun and ammunition] companies, even while their agendas clash on Capitol Hill." In effect, cities are funding opposition to their efforts, because they do business with firms which take an uncompromising stand on gun legislation.
The mayors have agreed to go back to their communities, check with procurement officers to determine how much is spent on guns and ammunition, and then grade manufacturers on their commitment to sensible gun safety legislation. Firms which unreasonably oppose gun safety could see some of their municipal business go to competitors. Hey, it's just business. •••
