Digging Out

Here are some photos of the area around my house.  Our weekend storm coated the trees with ice and snow, creating a spectacularly lovely landscape.  I thought yesterday's sun would melt this away, but as of this morning most trees still sport their frigid finery.

Richard, who plows my driveway, told me that Presque Isle got 11-12 inches of snow in this last storm.  However, snow depth varies from place to place in the township.  At my house the accumulation was less, but because I sit so high above the lake, the wind often blows a lot of snow past my property and into the woods beyond.  At one home near the township hall Richard found the driveway clogged with chest-high snow!  

Presque Isle Electric and Gas had about 15,000 customers without power after this storm.  Some 8,000 remained in the dark yesterday morning, and PIE+G said they expect to have everyone powered up... by Friday.  A full week without power is not my idea of roughing it, much less fun! •••
