Geil Historical Marker

On June 16 the Doylestown (PA) Historical Society completed its effort to have an historical marker erected in recognition of my grandfather, William Edgar Geil (1865-1925), who is Doylestown's "forgotten explorer."  The marker is located adjacent to The Barrens, the 30-room, three story concrete home which Dr. Geil built in 1912 as a wedding present for his wife, Constance Emerson Geil.  The site is on Route 611 in Doylestown Township, Bucks County, north of Philadelphia.

The DHS newsletter and local newspapers indicate that guests at the dedication included Wayne Spilove, chair of the Pennsylvania Historical Commission, Marvin Woodall, chair of the Heritage Conservancy of Bucks County, as well as representatives of DHS.  The estate's current owner, Steve Osborne, a DHS director, unveiled the marker and then hosted a tour of the property for those attending the ceremony.
