My friends John and Susan arrived yesterday to spend a few days at Camp Chickagami, my neighbor on the north. Over dinner at my house last night, Susan mentioned that their daughter's mother-in-law in New Zealand is a quilter. Indeed, she has won national recognition for the quality of her work. Mom-in-law is presently creating a quilt for John and Susan's grandson, whose debut is expected quite literally at any moment. They will get to see both their second grandchild
and the quilt in a few days when they fly off to New Zealand for a visit.
I mentioned the quilt Elizabeth made last year for my retirement at St. John's. This morning, at their request, I pulled out my "fabrics" storage box so that John and Susan could see Elizabeth's wonderful craftsmanship. They were greatly impressed!

Many of the fabric squares reflect colors in the woods, including
the bright red of a ruby-throated hummingbird, and the gray of
my many stones. |

Even the backing reinforces the woodsy theme.
Are these pine needles on the forest floor? |
As I get past the unpacking phase and start doing some decorating, Elizabeth's quilt will be on display — and close at hand on winter nights! •••
