Auroral Forecast

For several weeks now the level of auroral activity has been low — only 2 on the Geophysical Institute's Northern Lights "meter."  But today they bumped the rating up to 3.  In North America, weather permitting, "moderate displays will be visible... low on the horizon as far south as Prince Rupert, Calgary, Minot, Bemidji, Stevens Point, Traverse City and Quebec City, Canada."

The Auroral Activity Map for Nov. 8, 2013.
Of course, Traverse City is on Lake Michigan, west and a bit south of Presque Isle.  We are not likely to have clear skies tonight — a low will move through in the coming hours — but this kind of warning means someday, or rather some night, I'll see the lights again! •••
