Historical Marker

Yesterday I participated in the dedication of an historical marker at Presque Isle Lodge, the B and B on East Grand Lake Road near the post office.  This wooden structure was built about 1920 and, save for a few years in the 1970s, it has been in near-continuous operation ever since.  My role was to do the invocation and benediction for the event.  I seem to be the go-to clergy person for dedication of historical monuments.  Perhaps that is because I'm starting to look like a monument myself!

Robin Spencer is the Lodge's owner.  In the 1980s, before he bought the Lodge, Robin was a real estate agent, and brokered my purchase from Midge Kauffman of land on Lake Esau.  Since then he has been kind enough to put me up at the Lodge for a couple evenings, saving me the hassle and driving of renting a motel room in Alpena.

The Lodge's interior is knotty pine, and most of the furnishings are of pine, made on-site in the 1920s.  Those who spend the night here see the place almost the same as those who visited in the 1930s, '40s, and '50s.  It is truly a "period piece" and deserves the notice it is now receiving.
