Shoveling Out

Rick clears my driveway this afternoon.

Rick plowed me out at 1:30 this afternoon.  We've had at least 12-14 inches of snow since the wee hours of Sunday morning, and it's still falling.  Living close to Lake Huron has advantages and disadvantages.  Lake effect snow is one complication.

As of March 21, 2013, the Presque Isle County Road Commission had measured 113 inches of snow for the 2012-13 season.  We average about 102 inches per year.  On December 15th the Commission had measured about 32 inches, and we've had two significant snowfalls since then.  The 2013-14 season should be well above average, and will leave last winter in its dust.

I realize, of course, that our snowfall pales in comparison with other areas of Michigan and the U.S.  Happily, we did not get the ice which cut power to nearly 300,000 Michigan residents this weekend.  And we don't face flooding as in Ohio.  But our experience simply confirms that this is a very odd winter.  •••
