Finally! Snow!
We've finally got some serious snow on the ground! NOAA's National Weather Service reports an accumulation of 7 inches at Rogers City as of 8:45 this morning. Presque Isle seems to have picked up 5-6 inches, based on my drive over here to the clubhouse. At home I have only 2-3 inches on the ground, although the brisk wind has pushed it higher in some areas. Perhaps, living on top of a hill, some of the snow just blew past me.
After so many weeks with hardly a flake on the ground, this is a welcome change. We might even see a burst of tourist activity this weekend, based on the number of "snow inquiry" phone calls the Presque Isle Harbor Association has fielded over the past couple days. People with snow machines are anxious to get them out of the garage! And with the temperature slated to drop to 2 degrees overnight, our lake ice ought to improve quickly. That will encourage ice fishing, and hopefully keep dummies with expensive toys from ending up in the drink. •••
