Speaking of design, the new Katharine Hepburn stamp issued this week is spectacular. I've always favored black and white portraiture, finding it much more expressive than color. This is a wonderful B/W study of the young Hepburn. Among her many memorable performances, On Golden Pond always reminds me of northern Michigan, and The Lion in Winter could have been plucked from the Old Testament's brimming supply of dysfunctional families. •••
