Details, Details

I made a fast trip to Ann Arbor and Whitmore Lake yesterday to review the draft contract with my architect and attorney, and today worked out several remaining details with my contractor.  It looks like most of these issues are getting resolved.

I never dreamed there would be so many details to nail down.  For example, we have identified the proper glass for the windows (see an earlier post on passive solar).  Cardinal, which makes all the glass for Anderson Windows, has a "LowE-179" product which will do what we want.  One pane of the 2-pane "sandwich" has a coating which blocks UV radiation.  In the South this coating should face the outside to help prevent build-up of heat inside the house.  For my place, they simply turn this sheet of glass around so that the coating faces toward the interior of the structure.  Thus it allows UV radiation to enter the house, but then helps block heat from leaving.  Very simple!  But then, how does one know if the correct glass has been used?  That is a question we still have to answer. •••
