Bill and Cat have logged quite a few miles on their tour of Michigan. And I added a little to the windshield time. After our visit to the quarry I took them to our three township parks. At Range Light Park we checked out the statue of Anna Garrity, one of only 50 Michigan women to serve as keeper of a lighthouse, or in her case, of a navigational aid. Then we walked the beach for awhile.

After that we took in the Old and New Lighthouses. The visitor traffic at this time of year is heavy, and of course that helps generate revenue needed to support the facilities. But when the crowds abate, these are great places to find a pleasant bench from which to rest and quietly contemplate Lake Huron. As we say, if you can't see the other side, it's rather like being on the ocean, except we have no salt and no sharks.

In recent years Cat has been researching her family line, including some on-site data-mining in the U.K. Her sister recently presented Cat with a family tree quilt. I've never seen this done before. It's really quite handsome! •••
