H.O.G. Rally

This weekend Alpena hosted the 2013 Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) state rally.  Just a little shy of 1,000 bikers registered for the event.  More would have signed up, but accommodations in the area were exhausted.

On Friday the Presque Isle Township Museum Society hosted a hog roast at the New Lighthouse.  That seemed only appropriate!  We served about 150 meals, somewhat less than expected, but still a good total for a lunch event.  The Gift Shop at the New Light recorded its best sales day in memory — and some staff have worked at the shop for over a decade.

We had plenty of roast pork — a half-dozen shoulders,
plus on roast pig.  The food was excellent.

Drew, the Museum Society's immediate past president,
brought his own motorcycle to the event.

My task was to photograph the event.  Some of the photos will be used in the Society's new web site, which we will begin building in just a few days.  Our current site is not sufficient for our needs.  But a larger, more informative web site will require lots of photos, both of the lighthouses and our museum.

For this event Jeni, our Artifacts Chair, added a few Harley items to the museum displays.  I believe the Harley toy shown below actually fits the time frame — about 1915 — for our Keeper's House museum!

Harley riders tend to be older, including lots of Boomers, and heavily involved in charitable work through their home chapters.  They proved a very pleasant group of people to work with! ••
